SERAB CAMELHAIR, Northwest Persian
6' 4" x 11' 8"
193cm x 356cm
3rd Quarter, 19th Century
A finely tooled composition and glowing natural camelhair imbue this absolutely singular, over 150-year-old piece with an awe-inspiring sublimity. Its mesmerizing allover sprouting boteh field pattern combines luscious watercolor-like accents in soft unexpected tones, including apricot, cinnabar, and aqua green, creating an astounding, inspired departure from the traditional palette. The variation of its earthy camelhair in both the field and border is accentuated in the outer framing, where the striation gradually ebbs and flows. Freestanding well-spaced botehs on this pure outer band present a secondary layered paisley-like motif brilliantly augmenting the beautiful complexity of the field ornamentation. This one-of-a-kind antique art piece remains in superb good condition, able to comfortably withstand considerable traffic.
