Senneh rugs are meant to be viewed in close proximity, either on the floor or wall, so their exceedingly finely woven town aesthetic can be best appreciated. This weaving center enjoyed great fame throughout the 1700s and 1800s, crafting exquisite rugs for the local Kurdish princes. Immense boteh ‘Seeds of Life’ motifs surface amidst a botanical matrix rendered in pinpoint with every articulated detail achieved with individual attention. The juxtaposition of large and small scale ornamentation (notice the sequence of tiny boteh in the secondary borders) showcases the whimsical Senneh treatment, combining virtuoso precision with an enduring naïveté. Its minimalist palette elicits a more subdued presence with hues deepening as the rug-weaving progressed creating visual depth.
