Possessing an atmosphere that is at once tremendously powerful, yet graciously welcoming, this antique Kurdish Bijar rug offers a juxtaposed use of filled and open space is brilliantly conceived. This longer than area size shape (known as a kelege) has a wonderfully asymmetrical composition reducing a classical Bijar design to a more elemental medallion on an unadorned field format. This allows the jaw-dropping beauty of its pure, masterfully dyed resonant colors to showcase its naturally luminous camelhair expanse. Totally endearing, spontaneously devised rosettes that are playfully dispersed between a triad of irregularly drawn diamond medallions. Glittering paled turquoise spandrels hold differing abstract rainbow-toned flower medleys. Its nearly full pile condition ensures its usefulness on the floor for decades ahead.
