(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("New Arrivals Gallery") Legendary among mature collectors, Talish tribal pieces are well known for the precision and playfulness that produced the awe-inspiring atmosphere of this rare piece from the Southern Caucasus Mountains. In a highly singular composition, a cosmic array of whimsically placed stars stud the rarely found deep crimson field, much more often seen in sparsely adorned blue. Four intentionally misshapen stars in the lower field appear to coordinate the activity. All sizzle with energy and movement, well-juxtaposed to the more orderly containment of the frame - a classical Talish ‘frozen' border design relatively unchanged over time, the knotted rosettes possibly borrowed from Kirman vase carpets or transmitted via merchants and travelers along the ancient Silk Road. However, this likely Armenian weaver could not resist sprinkling tiny diamonds and placing four fugitive eight-pointed star motifs near the top.
