In this hard-to-find, grand palace size carpet, a very artfully drawn rendition of the beloved Mustafavi design (a highly stylized rendition of the “Garden of Paradise” pattern) is set against a dramatic backdrop of deep, shimmering sapphire blue and is the result of an incredible feat of weaving. This sophisticated design is illuminated by an expansive palette of deeply saturated hues of rust and cerulean in juxtaposition to softer shades of sage and bright blue. Leafy wreaths encircle lush, exotic bouquets set in between stylized curling leaves and winged garlands. The deeply hued tangerine main border features fanciful florets amid slanted vines, flanked by endearing indigo and ivory secondary borders of minuscule boteh chains and running flowers. At nearly 150 years of age, it remains in quite good condition with many years of use yet on its horizon.
