Vigorous yet balanced, this collectible Khamseh rug resonates with the natural beauty of the elemental tribal culture from which it stems. Alive with movement, harmonious hues, and intricate design, overscale botehs (sprouting seed forms indicative of the great abundance of life) are virtually camouflaged within the background matrix and drawn with a prescient attitude reminiscent of Art Deco. Between each row of boteh are the tirelessly pecking birds so beloved by the Khamseh people with tiny boteh as wings! The main border pattern has a wonderfully softened effect due to the lighter hues used to outline the sequence of rosettes, pods, and vinery, further balancing the entire composition. Cheerful rainbow-striped selvages are particularly fetching, and the flatwoven skirts remain intact at both fringe ends. Happily, this impressive piece is still in extremely good condition after nearly 150 years.
