("One of “60 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2022") Due to its luxuriantly fine weave and colossal dimensions, this resplendent, unparalleled carpet was likely made for a Shishboluki khan. Its columnar centerpiece reaches the edge of the field, met by crenelated Fences of Security. Just look at the wealth of cosmogonic adornment! Legendary avifauna of differing scales, solar wheels, endless knot rosettes, and mask-like bouquets, among other motifs, are tucked into every nook and cranny. A full chorus of painstakingly patterned borders surrounds this magnificent emotive display of the Qashqai tribal experience. James Opie, the foremost scholar on South Persian tribal rugs, wrote that the prevailing Qashqai aesthetic was to feature as many motifs as possible without imbalancing the overall design, a standard gloriously met in this rug.
