With an enrapturing dance between color and design, this highly sophisticated 19th century Tehran rug offers exceptionally finely knotted heavy pile and precise, unfathomable hand-crafted detail work that makes for a thoroughly engaging artistic expression. A quatrefoil centerpiece is nestled in the softly-scalloped medallion, holding four flame palmettes and displaying at its center a Tudoresque rose. The midnight sapphire field is flush with realistically depicted foliage filling every available space yet, beguilingly, stops short of overcrowding. Each blossom and brass-toned leaf were carefully rendered by an expert weaver who settled for nothing less than pinpoint excellence. Rubescent corner spandrels are encased in an elaborate arabesque of mellowed gold. A lush border of palmettes and crystalline chrysanthemums tumble in lush reciprocation of the medallion's pattern language.
