("New Arrivals Gallery") A panoply of coveted attributes are present in this irresistible 19th century Lesghi rug that features rare almost square dimensions. Dramatic triple star medallions, symbolizing sacred wisdom of celestial origins, dominate the field, drawn with etched clarity. The asymmetric and spontaneous tiny tribal motifs filling the empty spaces appeal to the seasoned eye where, timelessly, four curious canines greet each other amidst a robust scattering of traditional as well as personal ornaments. Adding an equipoised ambiance to this graphic piece is a dextrous ‘crab’ patterned ivory primary border, with diminutive tulip and geometric rosette secondary bands, often seen in antique Kuba rugs. Throughout, the rich color is exquisite, including a masterfully gradual shift across a spectrum of Pompeiian red hues in the field.
