Sometimes the beauty captured in an art-level rug (no matter what the genre) is so pure in its execution, it is universally embraced. This overall patterned Ferahan rug is such a piece. Although the design is a repeated series of interlocking botanical elements, the crispness of the drawing and the breath of exquisite tonalities against its cream base is so broad that its appeal continues to grow. The border drawing alone is staggering, with lotus petals trimmed in gossamer silhouetted on deepest sapphire. Its luxurious lanolin-rich Karakul wool illuminates from within resonant hues of ember red, fern greens, cerulean, periwinkle, Tyrian purple, and aubergine. This eloquent 120-year-old art rug remains in remarkable heavy pile condition.
