The uncanny level of precision, artistic ambition, and clarity of this Karagashli Shirvan can only be described as extraordinary. Sawtoothed fan pendants in cardinal red cap a sparkling quintuplet of haloed jewel medallions. A coterie of vigilant animal familiars is stationed amidst the casually asymmetrical cosmological fabric of the glimmering, deep sapphire field. Note the charming diamond-headed figures at the lower right. The brilliant weaver left plenty of room for a panoply of spontaneous Caucasian motifs, including talismans, bold crosses, and enigmatic badge-like rectangles and octagons. An expertly wrought euphoric palette of deeply saturated color enlivens this piece in a glowing array of expertly shaded hues. Age-old Zoroastrian S-motifs in the border with alternating sizes and reverse positions continue the rug's effervescent creativity. The rug's extraordinarily good condition further heightens its enrapturing effect.
