(High-Collectible)
A veritable reservoir of tribal invention, this century- and-a-half-old Caucasian Kuba reveals an expressive weaver’s mastery of her craft. Cosmic joy emanates from the spectacular display of Caucasian tribal symbols. Bold copper-hued lines create hexagonal compartments with Zoroastrian S-glyphs and emblematic flowerheads at the vertices, with sprinkled diamonds, crosses, and other esoteric ornaments filling the spaces created. The rug’s astonishing palette of natural dyes runs the chromatic gamut, with exotic metallic tones and tropical pastel hues reign alongside more familiar jewel tones. Coupled with artistic abrash changes along the length of the deep cerulean to deeper cobalt field, the border also offers tremendous artistic nuance. Especially at the top, the weaver inventively resolves a spacing issue that becomes a window to a view of tiny stars, expanding our wonder still further.
