With a seemingly effortless ability to control myriad designs and colors harmoniously, this so-called “long rug” reflects the artistic virtuosity and superb craftsmanship that makes Connoisseur-Caliber antique Shirvans so admired. Five hexagonal medallions shimmer like prisms within a reserve filled with a nuanced interplay of spontaneously diminutive geometric forms. Alternating latch hook rosettes present different iterations of a common theme: the transmogrification of the age-old Wheel of Life, also present in the matrix of the field. Using a saturated wide-ranging palette, its weavers created a sophisticated mosaic using punctuations of ivory to create razor-sharp contrasts of exciting, intense impact. A series of differing borders, including the elaborate reciprocal crenellations of the main band, aesthetically complement the entire rug in wonderful heavier pile condition.
