("New Arrivals Gallery") It is always a great treat to see a quite early representative of a highly prized Caucasian subgroup. The in-turning “boomerang” symbol portrayed in this rug and the paddle-like device, equally early and enigmatic, are both antecedent to the later Bidjov lexicon. They share the minimalist birds, florets, and crosses that decorate them. Like the mind of an inspired composer, the brilliant field contains a symphony of tribal characters and semiotic devices, inspiring the imagination to wander outside of this mystical portal. Reflecting an older, less formulaic aesthetic, the splendid border suite presents three distinct iconographs. Notably in the outer band, a clearly etched "Running Dog" design, very rarely seen in Shirvan rugs, imbues a particularly nomadic note. This tribal treasure has been kept in astounding condition with areas of heavier pile along with a pleasing patina.
