EAGLE KAZAK(CHELABERD KARABAGH)
4' 7" x 7' 2" (140 x 218cm) 3rd Qtr., 19th C.
(High-Collectible) ("New Arrivals Gallery") The most well-known and coveted rug style from the Caucasus tradition, inspired 19th century Eagle Kazaks (technically Chelaberd Karabaghs) are the crown jewel for any tribal collection and offer an unmatched experience of symbolic energy. In this innovative adaptation, a radiant sunburst medallion is well balanced to brilliant niched designs on a stunning crimson shifting to scarlet ground. Those variations take on elements of the core of the central sunburst but are crowned and without wings amplifying this rug’s mystery. Further deepening this enigmatic expression, each totemic structure is separated by a sun wheel-studded register with gazelles in technicolor on guard. Each motif holds deftly dyed, sonorous tones such as luminous cobalt, burnished gold, and emerald green beautifully textured by a soft abrash. Heavier high-mountain wool pile ensures a long future for this venerable piece.
