("New Arrivals Gallery") Rarely found in runner dimensions, this 160-year-old tribal rug from the village community of Konagkend in the Caucasus Mountains reveals its signature complex all-over field design. The mosaic-like format combines rows of interlocking polygons, stepped cross rosettes, and enigmatic dragon-like devices. A sprinkling of tiny squares and diamonds, among other individual accents, await discovery in the field, like colorful diacritics in the pattern language. A glowing patina amplifies its tasteful palette of celadon, sapphire, and cinnabar, while the Kufic motifs of the border, one of the oldest rug patterns dating back to the 13th century, create subtle visual links with the unique field composition. This tribal runner is a prime example of a geometric style that will sit very comfortably in a refined setting.
