(Connoisseur-Caliber)
An absolutely adorable village folk art rug woven in the avidly prized “Window to Eternity” format, delightfully exhibits the joyful abandon and engaging simplicity that characterize this type. This piece fully demonstrates the trademark Bakshaish childlike spontaneity of expression and the ability to dye their beloved glowing rich cornflower blue, one of the most difficult colors to capture. The unadorned radiant blonde hue of its camelhair reserve is framed by engaged carnelian red stepped cornerpieces each housing animated rosettes and pinwheel blossoms, some of which disappear off frame cleverly suggesting a sense of movement. Two minor bands of alternating flower and vine meanders and undecorated camel margins provide a fitting counterpoint to the interior. Heavier pile and its elusive, diminutive stature assure the versatility of this sweetheart rug, allowing placement in a variety of settings and spaces.
