An entirely festive artwork, this nearly 150-year-old Sultanabad art carpet offers meticulous knotting and glorious colors. A kaleidoscopic network of ultra-stylized blossoms and vine motifs is set off from a madder red field. Each element is individualistically drawn, and some take on wonderfully eccentric shapes worthy of additional study. A wealth of naturally dyed hues is on display, including honey, walnut, apple green, and lemon yellow. An almost imperceptible lattice emerges from the pattern, brought to the fore by a consistent steel blue hue. A free-drawn diamond centerpiece and related spandrels based in warm ivory provide further definition and vigor. The golden vinery in the eye-catching border kinetically engages each samovar-shaped palmette. This melodic carpet offers superb heavier pile and would be outstanding as floor art for a conversational area in any sizable space.
