An original, successful reinterpretation of the pattern language traditional to the Gendje subgroup brings great distinction to this Caucasian long rug. Its saturated, complementary palette and measured, crisply rendered tribal devices reveal the hand of a mature, sensitive weaver. Within a narrow reserve, diagonal bands of unusually abstracted multicolored boteh or 'Seeds of Life' motifs are reduced to wonderfully spare geometric outlines that evoke fanciful neon lights, transforming this piece into a modern art aesthetic. Though the rows are carefully spaced, those along both edges are intentionally abbreviated and imperfect, as if being compressed by the vertical edges. Further supporting the overall sense of spontaneity and asymmetry, the primary border based in warm carnelian holds very clearly rendered 'Wheels of Life' in a variety of artfully contrasting hues.
