("New Arrivals Gallery") Bearing the vigorous diagonal stripes traditional to the high mountain village of Gendje, this festive Caucasian rug expresses the sophisticatedly naive weavings adored by a legion of collectors. Shiny geometricized boteh Seeds of Life that stud each stripe within the unusually narrow field provide another layer of scale to this fantastic piece. Showcasing an exceptionally vivid selection of masterfully dyed colors, striking hues of azure, madder red, saffron, and challenging to achieve emerald green lend incredible vibrancy and power to the composition. Individualized abstracted flower heads adorn the glowing main border while a sprinkling of diamonds, large and small, embellish the horizontal bands. A palpable joie de vivre and exceptional condition at 150 years old further enhance the appeal of this expertly crafted piece.
