On the shortlist of the most prized, hardest-to-find tribal rugs of Southern Persia are those from the Kashkuli sub-tribe of the Qashqai woven during the 1800s. Its immaculately rendered column of triple diamond medallions present uniquely stylized ‘tamgas,’ emblems that serve as identifiers for particular Eurasian tribes. Tribal elders have told us that these symbols of the Qashqai Confederation are evocative of the nomadic hearth, where the trials and travails of the day would be shared among the group. The surrounding indigo field represents a meadow of wildflowers, each outlined in ivory, saffron, and subtle celadon green that imbue a bioluminescent quality to each flowering sprig. Crisp, deeply saturated naturally dyed shades of scarlet, cerulean, and Meyer lemon shine with vigor due to its ultra-silky wool and superb heavier pile condition. Its seldom-seen size and excellent condition would suit a wide variety of applications around the home.
