Created for personal use well before the commercial period stifled a majority of creative artistic impulses, this extremely inventive Caucasian Kuba rug boasts fanciful coloration melds with a whimsical modern art all-over pattern to a visually enthralling effect. Its seldom-seen ivory ground features a charmingly naive assemblage of ultra-stylized blossoms that look like technicolor eagles about to take flight. Playful horizontal chains of boteh seeds could also be seen as colorful snowbirds pecking at the ground. The entire canvas is sprinkled with tiny glittering crosses among rows of diamond flowerheads. One of the borders shows stylized daisies borrowed from the Seichur playbook. Yet, every band and entire composition are unique and contain the fun-filled magic of childlike spontaneity. Its pile shimmers due to the lustrous wool from high-mountain karakul sheep.
