(High-Collectible)
("One of “60 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2022") As one of the very few central medallion rugs styles within the Caucasian panoply, this Konagkend Kuba's elongated centerpiece places it in a significant, rarified category. Esoteric symbolism abounds, including crosses, bells with handles, Stars of Wisdom, Zorastrian "S" shapes, and endless knots, surrounded by the most ancient of all known motifs, the "ashik," repeated in the main border. This tribal rug presents a tremendously mature, balanced sense of color combination that creates a powerful chromatic splendor. The spectrum of time-softened tonalities, from its deep copper field to the four spacious, cornsilk-hued corner octagons, was envisioned before the rug was woven. First masterfully rendered to match the shadings in the weaver's imagination, the colors were then woven in ever-changing pairings throughout the multi-faceted and expertly scaled presentation. Even its tiny, tender carnations floating in the accent borders and other miniature flowers scattered across the field serve a purpose -- to gently offset the impact of the geometric theme.
