Late 19th Century

This timeless 19th-century Lesghi offers striking graphics and exquisitely buoyant naturally derived hues at once profoundly archetypal and strikingly modern. A trio of major star medallions represents the labarum of the Lesghi people, and where lightly decorated, mini dragon glyphs and daisies spontaneously appear. Cherished Caucasian motifs in the field include sun disks, triangular amulets, and crystalline flowerheads. Throughout, the lambent colors are exquisite, including an incredibly evocative transition from deep midnight indigo at the top to luminous sapphire hues in the field below. A magical patina gained over more than 125 years deepens these jewel tones, and an artistic emphasis on ivory masterfully illumines the rug. In superb condition, this singular piece is worthy of prominent display or collection.
