(High-Collectible)
Another absolutely mind-blowing treasure unearthed from the Michigan collection, this exceedingly early, artfully executed Caucasian rug offers attributes collectors yearn for and are only found in very old pieces. A more archaic motif has replaced the usual pattern language of free-standing rows of palmettes. Ancient ashik guls (or flowers) are oriented vertically with individualistic Diamonds of Strength at their centers, interconnected by staff segments. Near the perimeter of the luminous ivory field, zipper-like vines dangle amidst sprinklings of glittering "stars." Green hues were exceptionally costly to produce at this time and are used sparingly, along with a rare pale lilac tone. Its interlocking 'Dragon' border is a visual polyrhythm where spontaneous boteh and other ornaments further intrigue the transfixed viewer. After nearly two centuries, an unfathomable high to medium pile has been preserved.
