(High-Collectible)
("New Arrivals Gallery") The Seichur Kuba weaving tradition created a number of exceptional visual formats, including the most emblematic of all. The progressively compressed tetrad of stacked St. Andrew’s cross motifs with their surrounding systems of stylized flora is called ‘ispigyulchichi’ which translates from the local language as “white flower.” Each cruciform icon is conjoined to others that are partially visible at the edge of the ivory field, essentially forming an elaborate infinite lattice in the mind’s eye of the weaver. The organic intensity inherent to this immensely collectible Seichur Kuba rug creates tremendous energy and intrigue, as do the deeply saturated primary color tones used across the composition. The Kufic border treatment is almost unprecedented in its ambition, with a tightly formed chryselephantine framework bracketing polychrome knotted rosettes. This stellar rug's condition is extraordinarily good at 1-½-centuries of age.
