4' 6" x 7' 1" (137cm x 216cm) Circa 1900
This fascinating antique Kashan Persian rug that continually grows on you the more you examine it transcends its classical roots with both a unique color palette and design vocabulary. This 120-year-old Persian Kashan's use of naturally dyed midnight indigo for the background of the field and border is very seldom seen in rugs of this style and dramatically evokes the clarity of a cathedral's stained glass window. An elegant, exceedingly well-rendered theme of paisleys and lotus flowers is masterfully hidden among the many nuanced floral forms. Its outstanding, heavy pile condition makes it infinitely practical as well.
