(Connoisseur-Caliber)
("Gold Coasts Collection") This small, yet powerful piece from the Caucasus Mountains was conceived in a village near the capital of present-day Armenia almost 150 years ago. A trio of exquisite winged medallions, each sized individually, hover over a reserve of rippled Caspian blue. At their center, poignant Coptic crosses are enclosed within a Wheel of Life motif summing up the spiritual heritage of this region high above sea level. Its overall measured spaciousness is serene yet energized by the asymmetrical placement of carefully knotted enigmatic symbols - beloved since time immemorial - and arranged by a highly experienced hand. Always adding their spin to traditional border patterns, 8-pointed stars introduce rare color combinations and play with perspective and scale through gentle compression. Equally distinguished on the floor or wall, this piece has retained good pile at a venerable age.
