True 19th-century Persian Ferahan carpets with their extremely fine weaves and closely shown pile are yet more rarely found than their Ferahan Sarouk counterparts. Discovering a palace-size carpet of such uncommon distinction in outstanding condition narrows that percentile dramatically. A design of astonishing complexity and incredible precision reveals a series of lobed mini-medallions hidden along the centerline and vertically truncated at the edge of the field. It suggests the pattern extends in all directions infinitely - a concept shared across the Near Eastern rug weaving world. Floret studded diagonally oriented forms appear to swirl before one's eyes with scrolling jade-hued cloudbands engaging with teardrop appendages. This likely alludes to the legendary cosmic dance of the dragon and phoenix. All compositional zones are densely formatted yet never appear crowded or unbalanced - the result of exceptional technical and artistic proficiency. Its enchanting border reads like a botanical arched colonnade.
