(Connoisseur-Caliber) The geometrical field pattern of this tribal rug from the lowland Caucasus provides alluring artistic modernity atop a deep midnight indigo ground. Enhanced by the subtle patina of age, an unexpectedly robust palette achieves excellent visual impact in this memorable Caucasian Kuba rug. Coruscating jewel hues animate its crisply rendered allover pattern home to a stirringly creative combination of closely set elemental motifs. At the top edge of the field, what appear to be bright ivory and cerulean canines stand at attention while four in red and gold keep watch a few rows below. Diminutive S-symbols magically imbue this piece with the energy of the Celestial Dragon as enveloped in a cloudband and are tucked into every nook and cranny. The intelligent use of ivory in the main border accentuates the crisply rendered ashik gul motifs, an abstracted flower concept known since at least the bronze age through ceramic finds.
