(High-Collectible)
("Great Lakes Collection") The Lesghi Star motif has seen numerous iterations woven in villages that were within the boundaries of Lesghistan at some point in time. It is one of the most compelling designs in the Caucasian lexicon. In the field, a quintuplet of beaming, wonderfully pixellated stars host a cadre of totemic horses that prance among daisies and lanterns on alternating garnet and denim backgrounds. The evocative color transitions within two of the stars, from mellow Caspian blue to Aegean green, visually augment the power of the cherished symbol, especially in dynamic contrast to the brighter ivory zones. The unusual border is a testament to the charm of a master’s improvisation, switching patterns with ease and compounding the immense visual interest of this rug. Its luscious range of color is a dazzling reminder of the superior dyer skills that come from living nearer the multitude of plant resources available while working with supreme quality wool, the like of which is now rarely found. This heavier pile shorn from mountain flocks imbues this iconic piece with a silky luster due to naturally oily wool and is particularly hard-wearing against even moderate foot traffic. GLC rugs cannot be purchased using exchange credit.
