Top-level 19th-century village Serapi carpets, such as this folkloric, awe-inspiring piece, presents a sublime level of artistic splendor, great spaciousness of design, and a glistening patina. While later carpets have more formulaic medallion designs, this innovative outlier features a refreshingly original centerpiece. Four esoteric torch-like appendages command the field cloaked in a rosy fire, tethered by slender tendrils. Bold, elemental proportions demonstrate an intuitive aesthetic sensitivity with motifs that continually change in their exact size, shape, and coloration to fascinate the viewer's mind. This aesthetic reflects the joyful, uncomplicated lifestyle of the Azerbaijani weavers during this period, which allowed their creative impulses to flourish at an unhurried pace without pressure from the commercial markets. What will your imagination discover within? A fabulous, rare color palette of platinum blue, crimson, scintillating sapphire, electrum, and delectable shades of precious, sparingly used sea green. The aged ivory border contains a magical rendition of the Shah Abbas pattern that slowly elongates vertically as viewed from bottom to top. Reflecting this style’s eminent aesthetic that graphically captures the kinetic energy of nature, this dynamo village carpet is in extremely good condition. at 160-170 years old.
