(High-Collectible)
("One of “60 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2022") The exemplary and rarely found Mohtasham Kashan weavings of this vintage represent a group of finely knotted, tremendously accomplished carpets that continued to be woven, although influenced by the commercial interests of the later period to the end of the 19th century. This style of carpet was an original favorite of Persian aristocracy and the gentry from the surrounding Near Eastern countries before it became a collectible item for Europeans and Americans. As this captivating piece so aptly portrays, the style features subtle natural dye mastery and fluidly drawn floral imagery. This piece has an extraordinary luminescence emanating from the soft ecru ground found throughout the field and main border. A majestic lobed diamond centerpiece with vertical pendants is awash with abrashed (intentional color striation) coral and encloses an inner eight-pointed star. Finely etched indigo vinery forms a "ripple effect" of reserve around the central medallion and delineates the four corner spandrels. The ethereal centerpiece and field are adorned with many delicate vinery, blossoms, and flowerheads in azure, hazel, walnut, and cobalt blue tones.
