("One of “60 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2023") Isfahan has been a weaving and cultural center of great importance with its culmination as the capital of Shah Abbas, the great patron of the arts in the 16th century, “The Golden Age of Persian Weaving”. The city’s workshops were known for procuring and utilizing the finest materials including silk, lamb’s wool, and jewel-toned natural dyes to create collectible, investment-level antique carpets. Here, masterful weaving skills, highly inspired design, and superb natural dyes combine to form an urban workshop masterpiece beyond measure. The classic over-scale lobed carnelian 'shamsa' centerpiece encloses an inner eight-pointed sapphire star which in turn is ensconced within a wreath of finely rendered vinery and celadon blossoms. A pair of lamp-like pendants emanate upon the alabaster field filled with a plethora of detailed flowerheads, cloud band motifs, and delicate branches in tones of cobalt, walnut, carnelian, and coral. The four deep indigo corner spandrels are replete with flowing arabesques and a variety of colorful blossoms while providing a rich contrast to the lighter-toned field. The carnelian red primary border features a mesmerizing millefleur design including broad flowers, feathery leaves, and a series of intricate partial medallions.
