("New Arrivals Gallery") This sublime room-size carpet was created in Tabriz during an era when the understated and spacious designs from an earlier time were still aesthetically highly valued. A series of billowy Rococo-esque medallions bloom like oases in an austere desert landscape that has been finely textured by the adroit application of a finely nuanced “abrash” technique of purposeful color striations. Each medallion consists of an organically contoured starflower on a bed of floral forms encased by golden arabesque tendrils. Beyond the visually immersive, painstaking design and exceptionally fine knotting, it offers the signature palette of colors, including subtle rose, cinnamon, radiant coral, bronze, and blued taupe seen in no other style. Painstakingly executed borders revel in the pinpoint precision used by the seasoned 19th-century weavers to render the perennially popular patterns designed in the court of Shah Abbas around the turn of the 17th century. Extraordinarily good condition for the carpet's great age further contributes to its tremendous allure and versatility.
