FACHRALO KAZAK, Southern Central Caucasian
3' 8" x 4' 5" Circa 1875 Price: $7,800
(High-Decorative)
Antique Fachralo Kazak prayer rugs are one of the most elemental Caucasian styles. This piece's overall simplicity has a commanding presence, with its single decagon medallion that sprouts ram's horn motifs within and without. Tribal devices are placed with virtually symmetrical precision. Each lexicographic rectangle, eight-pointed star, and esoteric geometric device are compelling visual markers in an otherwise spacious architectural display. Fachralo weavers were particularly adept at creating profound visual impact with few colors. Those used are particularly richly hued such as the saturated madder reds, indigo, burnished gold, and spruce greens found in this nearly square-dimensioned rug. Its rugged "mountain" border suite possibly reflects this resilient people's daily terrain, respectfully recorded in geometric order. Its softened patina of great age further enhances the allure of this desirable tribal rug, which would make for striking, festive wall art or brighten any somber space around the home.
