A vivid feast for the eye Caucasian rug from the ever-diverse Kuba realm brings together a uniquely captivating visual arrangement that blends a mastery of natural dye techniques and modern art graphic motifs. When the weaver began at the bottom of the field, she created a design that started spontaneously and then transformed into the rest of the pattern. It is organized as a variable honeycomb framework with imaginative geometric devices that are essentially abstract flowers with a cubist twist. Its resonant color combinations are dazzling, and such bold emerald greens are rare to see from this region. Beyond the stencil daisies and unfettered “leaf and chalice” sequence on an ivory ground, the outer border is wonderfully wild, with diagonal striping compressed into even narrower bands at the top and bottom. This tribal treasure is happily in extremely good even medium pile condition after six score-plus years, and is now ready to add another lucky art rug collector to its legacy.
