In a stunning visual orchestration, this quite finely woven Caucasian Shirvan leaves one almost breathless. It offers a seamless combination of a richly saturated rainbow color palette and dexterous striking tribal design. A multitude of stylized flower medallions cascade down the Egyptian blue field, linked by S-shaped glyphs with celestial connotations. At their center, knotted rosettes sprout four-directional branches and budding stalks. When examined more closely, none are quite the same in color or shape, revealing the subtle improvisations of the artist-weaver. Among the many glorious colors is a delightfully dusky shade of Tyrian purple, precious since ancient days, derived from a Mediterranean mollusk notoriously challenging to harvest. The main border is where the weaver allowed themselves to create a further sense of movement through a spontaneous and carefree application of glittering diagonal bands juxtaposed in contrasting colors. This vivacious tribal rug remarkably still possesses heavier pile overall.
