("New Arrivals Gallery") Originating from the famed weaving center of Serab in Azerbaijan, this luminous carpet possesses an atmosphere that is at once tremendously powerful yet graciously welcoming. This is the result of the Azeri tribe’s highly skilled color creation and mastery of combining age-old designs into a cohesive whole. At the carpet’s heart, a smaller-scale serrated diamond medallion floats amidst a lush, sparkling field containing a legion of tiny blossoming plants, known as the "mille fleur" pattern. In the vermilion spandrels, a wide-ranging collection of geometricized flower forms and "Seeds of Life" boteh forms are organized into a wonderfully carefree yet cohesive assembly. Seemingly spontaneous shifts in color and shape are rendered throughout the composition with exceptional dexterity and sensitivity, which adds continual movement and visual interest throughout the carpet's entire expanse. Framing the series of borders, each featuring original ornamentation is a wide band of undyed camelhair. This stately room-size carpet remains in superb condition at some 135 years of age.
