("New Arrivals Gallery")This incredibly robust antique Serapi is in the rarely encountered area-size format. It displays a unique level of innovation that expertly balances both color and design. Its bold proportions and harmonious natural palette exemplify the aesthetic of this prized village weaving genre.
A graceful eight-pointed rosette sits at the center of a majestic large medallion, reaching out to fill this saturated indigo space with multihued floral vinery. Its color palette is rare and profoundly beautiful. A generous field of rarely encountered cornflower blue features richly colored foliage, while ample linked corner pieces accommodate similar displays that include golden stylized fronds. Each motif is carefully drawn according to a well-spaced overall plan that allows for spontaneous individual detail. An unusually wide main border, grounded in unique burnished gold, is devoted to overscale cartouche motifs connected by elaborate geometric vinery. This pattern continues uninterrupted through each of the carpet's four sides. Intricate minor borders contain equally colorful small-scale patterning in a smoothly flowing arrangement. Having always been in the hands of those who treated it with much respect, it remains in wonderfully, heavier pile condition.
