High mountain Kazaks are graphically bold and offer simplicity of design ideal for a wide range of decors from traditional and contemporary to Arts & Crafts and Modernist. This over 130-year-old piece offers an architectural theme of stacked bow tie medallions establishing a tempo that is charmingly echoed in fascinatingly folkloric hooked ornaments and geometric blossoms. The entire pattern provides a sense of vertical movement as the top shifts off-frame. A bold palette of prized hues such as spruce green, madder, and saffron exude a primitive vigor in this well-preserved Kazak that still glistens after 130 odd years. The visual depth is enhanced through deft color changes and graduations of hue between each section of the central column. Its bright ivory border glows with a Cubist "oak leaf and kylix" sequence with an almost Victorian flourish.
