("One of “60 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2023") The city of Tabriz has a storied past in the realm of Persian carpet history. Having reached its zenith in weaving design and production between the 12th and 16th centuries, it continued to absorb influences from many regions and cultures. Some of the finest workshops were established during the 19th century, continuing the legacy of intricate designs and accomplished artistry. This piece is a superb example of Tabiz’s unique stylistic approach. Within the elongated field resides four vertically aligned ascending over scale palmettes based in a soft wheat tone. Striking curling vinery in cobalt blue emanate from and encircle these elegant primary motifs. The spacious field is a masterwork of the art of abrash which provides tremendous visual depth and necessary separation from the design’s color palette. Fronded palmettes are engaged along the edge of the field while smaller feathery leaves and blossoms rest amidst the flora and vinery.
