("New Arrivals Gallery") This inspired rug is an illustrious member of one of the more rarely seen Persian floral styles, woven during the Qajar dynasty in the city of Tehran at the foot of the Alborz mountains. Arising from an exceptionally fine weave, this festive "Garden of Paradise" tableau draws upon the viewer's gaze to see forest animals and birds abound, some indistinguishable from the foliage they inhabit, depicted in their daily affairs. A delightful marshy scene adds dimension to the landscape beneath graceful, upward climbing rubescent vinery that creates the outline of a vase at the bottom center in the exact spot this vessel is often found. Wielding the consummately dyed yarns with the utmost dexterity was an incredible achievement, a testament to now-lost natural dye recipes—every exquisite hue courses and shifts throughout this woolen canvas with painterly expertise. Rich cranberry, butterscotch, lemon yellow, rosy quartz, copper, and sand hues join scintillating shades of azureous blues to increase the emotional timber of its visual story. A richly colored border captures deer frolicking and landscapes of trees laden with beauteous blossoms in a series of scalloped "windows" through which each part of a greater panorama peeks through. This entrancing piece remains in excellent pile condition glowing through lanolin-rich luminous wool.
