A thrilling marriage of crisp clarity and nimble color handling manifests in this accomplished example of an enthusiastically collected Shirvan subgroup. We seldom find “Blossom” Shirvans, and on the occasion that one arrives, it is always exciting to see. Vivid serrated “snowflake” style blossoms are effulgent with a surprising array of tones reflecting a fascinating study of dye recipes and their glorious results. The namesake allover motifs are individualistic in their drawing through minute spontaneous variations in a mesmerizing arrangement as their crimson, cornflower blue, and paled gold values are explored. At the center of each flower, a faceted pinwheel rosette appears to spin like a nucleus empowering each glorious bloom. An unconventional-for-its-type main border presents a striking parade of energetic devices representing the Celestial Dragon (cloudband) surrounded by dancing carnation flowers that counterpoint and successfully harmonize with the interior. Not only a triumph of 19th-century Caucasian folk art diversity, this piece also possesses heavier pile and extremely unusual square dimensions.
