("Great Lakes Collection") Widely sought after by collectors, area-size rugs woven in the remote high-mountain village of Bakshaish, especially those with prized undyed camelhair fields, have become extremely rare to find. A welcome enlightened naïveté permeates this work to demonstrate an unaffected spontaneity of expression that makes for an overtly charming piece. Budding geometric sprigs float across the unusual blonde camelhair field. The seemingly randomly placed motifs are actually in almost perfect alignment even while undergoing a slight compression as the eye moves upward. A darker shade of camelhair was used in the border where a playful, carefree version of a radically geometric oak leaf and rosette border resides. The parallel minor bands exhibit delightful queues of proud ‘murghi’ or wild chickens known since ancient times in Persia. The generously wide outer margin is woven with fine striations that give the expanse a fantastic soft texture that dramatically contributes to all of the unique elements that set this lovely piece apart. GLC rugs cannot be purchased using exchange credit.
