SENNEH
4' 11" x 6' 8" (150 x 203cm) Circa 1875
(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("New Arrivals Gallery") Inherently stunning through its striking spaciousness, harmoniously contrasting pinpoint designs, and precision knot-work, this 150-year-old Persian town rug presses all of the Senneh connoisseur's buttons. Its glistening rubescent medallion is connected to the ivory corner spandrels via architectural arrow pendants leading to a beautiful Shah Abbas device that crowns an elemental fruiting tree. Pear-like boteh seeds float in the midnight indigo reserve. The dazzling primary pattern is a whimsical variation on a widely adapted repeating blossom and diamond lattice pattern called 'Herati' after the ancient oasis city southeast of Meshed. Five energetic bands sparkle with abstract botanical themes rendered in extremely fine knots. This Senneh's signature 'handkerchief handle' is the legendary result of this weaving center's renowned traditional craftsmanship and uncanny attention to detail. Still in heavier pile condition, this stellar representative of the Persian Town weaving tradition is ideal for display on either the floor or wall.
