TABRIZ
4' 6" x 6' 2" (137 x 188cm) Late 19th C.
(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("New Arrivals Gallery") Offering a sublime level of quality and elevated artistry, this intoxicatingly beautiful Tabriz would make any ardent fan of this genre swoon with delight. The focal point of this courtly composition is a scalloped teardrop medallion balanced by diminutive crown-like appendages, which are embellished by a victory crown of florets and burnished gold leaves. At its center, a glistening lotus opens upon a finely drawn bed of flowers and palmettes. An incredibly spacious, celadon-tinged reserve is finely striated by the weaver’s evenly applied abrash technique, offering a sense of depth as a layer just beneath the central mandala and surrounding corner spandrels, bustling with a joyful classic Herati pattern. Burnt carnelian cartouches glow like embers and contain lozenge devices with painstakingly intricate patterning that look like the finest ivory scrollwork in the primary border. Luminous cerulean minor bands feature eye-catching feathery meandering garlands and tiny sun-like flowerheads.
