This resplendent Persian Serapi in the seldom-found small room-size format reverently presents many of the most classic attributes of this much-loved style, creating a memorable artistic experience. A disarmingly beautiful rose window medallion adorns the center of a fiery madder red field, accompanied by a diverse range of mid-scale blossoms decked out in a rainbow’s spectrum of jewel color. Each botanical element appears to be alive and sway with gentle movement. Illustrious flame palmettes serve as pendants, although connected to the centerpiece by meandering vinery. Infused with soft abrash, these artistically nuanced color shifts animate every frond, leaf, and flower of this sophisticated village rug with movement creating the appearance of greater dimensionality. The field is framed by a beautifully executed, classical Persian border design called Shah Abbas of repeated elegantly fringed cartouches. As a result of its imaginative weavers’ innovations, while simultaneously respecting a deep artistic heritage, this carpet evokes a particular refinement without relinquishing the signature stylized Serapi way of drawing. Its remarkably good condition further enhances its desirability.
