The renowned village of Bakshaish in northwest Persia is revered for its skillfully rendered designs incorporating elements from fine classical urban weavings as well as nomadic traditions. Woven in a much-desired, extremely versatile small room size, this antique weaving demonstrates the masterful use of time-softened natural dyes and spontaneous designs to create a superb work of art. The soft coral field is the backdrop to a highly unique ascending allover pattern consisting of abstracted striped polygons and striking broad flowerheads connected by robust vinery. A plethora of smaller blossoms rest amidst the spacious field drawing. The entire carpet benefits greatly from the subtle use of abrash, especially evident in the undyed camelhair outer border.
