A subtly impactful carpet that would be equally at home in either a formal and casual setting, this over 150-year-old Bakshaish reflects this style’s signature freehand, asymmetrical approach to a repeating pattern, as well as the masterly handling of color striation. In this remarkably well-preserved nearly 9-1/2 by 11-1/2 carpet, luminous hues of carnelian red and cornflower to sky blue gently undulate under expert waves of abrash, enhanced further by a glowing patina. An unadorned outermost border of prized undyed camelhair adds further allure to this rare over 140-year-old Persian village carpet.
